Compare the installed scope
Two proposals can use similar equipment and cover different work. Request an itemized scope identifying the generator, transfer equipment, electrical work, fuel connection, site preparation and any exclusions.
Capacity starts with loads
What you want to keep running affects the system design. Ask how the proposal addresses starting demand and any load management. A capacity recommendation should be tied to your property’s needs.
Ask about property-specific work
Distances, fuel arrangements, access and placement can change a project’s scope. Ask which assumptions were used and what would trigger a revised estimate after the site assessment.
Separate the price from financing
Request the installed project total first. If financing is available, compare its written terms separately, including eligibility and the overall amount paid. A monthly payment alone does not describe the project cost.
Plan for ownership, too
Discuss maintenance, monitoring and how service requests are handled. Ask which work is included in the proposal and which ongoing services are separate. Then arrange a property assessment for an estimate specific to your home.
